2026 Caucus Recommendations!
IT’S TIME TO CAUCUS!
Believe it or not, it’s already time to head to your local caucus! Boulder County caucus is taking place this Saturday, March 7th, beginning at 11:30am. Whether you caucus regularly, have never been to caucus, or are caucus-curious, we’re here to help.
It’s our hope that 2026 will be the most well-attended caucus Boulder County has seen in years, and with your participation - it will be! We will get into how to find your caucus locations at the end of this email, as well as explaining a bit about what to expect when you’re there.
WHO SHOULD I SUPPORT AT CAUCUS?
Boulder Progressives is pleased to offer a set of pre-caucus recommendations to help you navigate the sea of candidates all vying to take office and represent us for the next several years. Prior to this year’s primary we will make official endorsements in these contests, but for now we want to highlight and recommend that you consider 1-2 candidates in each race who have stood out to us and impressed us with their advocacy, their priorities, and the vision for tomorrow.
US Senate: Boulder Progressives recommends Julie Gonzales
Members of our board were clear that Julie Gonzales and Karen Breslin both stood out as strong candidates in this race. We ultimately recommend the one candidate who we believe best matches our mission and values, Julie Gonzales.
Julie’s lived experiences and professional record have given her a deep understanding of the flaws in our system and the ways to improve them. We appreciate her willingness to stand up for our immigrant populations, and her strong point of view and commitment to making both Colorado and the United States a better, safer place to live. Julie will be a force for change at the capitol.
Colorado Attorney General: Boulder Progressives recommends both David Seligman and Michael Dougherty
Members of our board were clear that David Seligman, Michael Dougherty, and Hetal Doshi each stood out as strong candidates in this race. We ultimately recommend the two candidates who we believe best match our mission and values, David Seligman and Michael Dougherty.
David is a fighter, and a fierce advocate for the rights of people over corporations. He has a great depth of experience working with people who have been harmed by the system and left behind, and he knows the change that is needed.
Michael has served our Boulder community with compassion and grace, and we are thankful for all he has done to make the role of District Attorney here in Boulder be one that is focused on protection and understanding, rather than punitive persecution.
David and Michael are each excellent examples of what we hope to see in our next Attorney General, and we know they are each up to the challenges manifested by the Trump administration.
CU Regent District 2: Boulder Progressives recommends Kubs Lalchandani and Murray Smith
Members of our board were clear that Kubs Lalchandani, Murray Smith, and Kristopher Larsen each stood out as strong candidates in this race. We ultimately recommend the two candidates who we believe best match our mission and values, Kubs Lalchandani and Murray Smith*. Murray Smith is not caucusing, please support Kubs Lalchandani at your caucus!
Kubs is not afraid to ruffle feathers and will bring a much-needed change in voice to the CU Board of Regents. We appreciate his commitment to progressive values, his experience as an attorney, and his big-tent approach to governance. For a board that has been mired down in ethical conflict, and that has recently chosen to elevate a Republican to Chair despite having a strong Democratic majority, Kubs’s direct style and professional background will go a long way.
Murray grew up here in Boulder and is a graduate of CU Boulder. He is the only candidate in the race under 40, and brings that lens to his run for office. For a board that represents the students and staff of CU Boulder, there are surprisingly few (none) board members who have the experience of being a student any time in the past 20 years. We like that Murray will bring a different perspective to CU’s Board of Regents. *Murray is not participating in Caucus, but we encourage you to learn more about him and his campaign prior to the primary election in June.
RTD District O: Boulder Progressives recommends Jack Rosenthal
Rarely has Boulder Progressives seen a candidate so universally-supported as Jack Rosenthal*. Jack has lived in the Boulder-Denver area since 2014, during which time he and his husband have been committed transit users. We love that Jack has the lens of a service-user, and that he is passionate about user experience and improvement. We know that until RTD does better, we can never reach many of our climate and transit goals, and we feel confident that Jack has both the knowledge and the commitment to make change happen.
*RTD is not a race that appears at Caucus, but we encourage you to learn more about Jack and his campaign prior to the primary election in June.
HOW DO I ACTUALLY CAUCUS?
Now that you know the candidates you may be wondering what the next steps to getting them elected look like. Well, the first step is to attend your precinct caucus this Saturday March 7th!
You can find your precinct locations by visiting the Boulder County Democrats caucus page, and clicking on “Find Your Precinct”. Once you’ve located your precinct all you need to do is show up this Saturday, March 7th. Caucus runs from 12:15-3:15, and registration opens at 11:30. You are not required to pre-register in order to attend caucus, you can simply walk in the door of your location at 11:30 or later and a Dems volunteer will get you all sorted out. Note: to attend caucus, you must have been a registered Democrat and a resident of your precinct since February 13, 2026. However, if you would like to pre-register to save yourself some time you can do so through the same link above by clicking on the “let us know you’re coming” button.
Once you arrive at your caucus location there will be members of our local Boulder County Democratic Party on site to explain to everyone how caucusing works. Not sure you understand it? You’re not alone! Your caucus location will ensure that each and every person knows what to do, and they will answer any and every question you can throw at them. In short, you will voice your opinion on which candidates you prefer, and you’ll hear from the other folks in your precinct on who they tend to favor. Each precinct caucus is different, but you can expect yours to be around 10 people, give or take. You’ll have a chance to talk and voice your opinions, and then you’ll see where the majority lies. From there you’ll nominate a couple of folks who represent the majority positions of your precinct to head to assembly to continue the process at the county level.
There are a list of FAQs directly on the dems page above, if you still have unanswered questions after looking those over feel free to email us with any questions at boulderprogressives@gmail.com, or you can reach out directly to the BoCo Dems at info@bocodems.org.
